The Lenten fish fry season got off to a hot start March 8 as dozens of parishes throughout the Archdiocese of New Orleans ignited their deep fryers to provide seafood dinners for the multitudes.
At St. James Major in Gentilly, the Gentilly Knights of Columbus (Council 2925) prepared an estimated 1,000 plates of fried catfish, along with green beans and homemade potato salad.
Two jumbo pieces of catfish were included in the $11 tab. At left, battering the catfish, is Glenn Ricard, and at right, Janusz Urbanski fills the to-go orders. The Clarion Herald has a comprehensive list of parish and school fish fries throughout the archdiocese at www.clarionherald.org. Type “fish” into the search box.
