Pop-Up Farmer's Market

Alexander's Highland Market will hold its first Pop-Up Farmers Market of the fall on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, from 10-2, with homemade jellies, pies, goat milk and more as well as handcrafted soaps, local artwork, and jewelry. Eat Fit BR will distribute free healthy grocery shopping lists and sample recipes, and Cane Land Distillery and local craft breweries will sample from noon until 2 p.m. to the tunes of local Americana singer/songwriter Denton Hatcher.

In addition, booth fees will be donated to Bella Bowman Foundation in support of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The local charity was founded in honor of Bella Bowman, the eight-year-old daughter of Kim and Trey Bowman, who succumbed to brain cancer in 2011. Visitors to the market are asked to consider contributing quarters or small personal hygiene items and snacks to comfort care packages given to Baton Rouge families battling childhood cancer.

“It’s a privilege to host community gatherings that support not only farmers and foodie entrepreneurs but also worthwhile efforts like the Bowman family’s,” says owner Lathan Alexander, who noted the market will include activities for kids, who are encouraged to learn about “the big red dot” of cancer and Bella’s courage.

Alexander also notes that folks here place a premium on fresh food, which is better for you and better for the environment. "Eating local is not a passing fad," he adds. "It's a way of life.

Two dozen vendors include GrinningJupiter Jammery, Boeccure, Dip Me Snacks, Cultured Guru, Andi Lynn’s, Soul Grain, Cochon Cannery, The Cajun Spoon, Most Delightful Foods, L’Amour Louisiane, Carolyn Rodrigue encaustic art, and more
